2. The National Union Catalog is a printed catalog of bibliographic information for pre-1956 materials. It has 754 volumes, and some of its information cannot be found in WorldCat.
3. WorldCat is an online database that contains “the catalogs of over 9000 institutions from more than 80 countries” (http://www.library.arizona.edu/help/worldCatLocal). According to WorldCat.org, the database has information on 1.4 billion items.
4. The Library of Congress website contains one catalog that can be searched using various methods. The British Library has many online catalogs that cover specific topics.
5. The Library of Congress catalog helps maintain bibliographic control because it provides a national standard for the content of bibliographic records.
